House refurbishment
A rooflight at the top of a new triple height stairwell floods the entrance hall of this end-of-terrace house with natural light. The ground floor is enlarged with a rear extension that knits together the kitchen, living and dining spaces. A fully retractable sliding door opens onto the courtyard garden at the rear.
Attic conversion
The second floor roof space was opened up to create 2 new bedrooms by way of loft dormer conversion.
A new matchboard-faced timber staircase winds the full height of the house connecting the lower floors with the new bedroom and bathroom formed in the attic. A full width roof extension to the rear with a sizeable double-glazed window enabled the loft dormer conversion.
The rear elevation has been painted white to unify the new composition of the house and to better reflect sunlight into the garden at the rear. Tall-fronted deep drawers, requiring specialist industrial drawer runners, were formed at the eaves to exploit every inch of available space.
Services
New lighting and Gas central heating systems were installed throughout the house.
